A 35-year-old man, John Simbeye from Zewera Village in the area of Senior Chief Mwenewenya, is in police custody for allegedly stabbing Chindikani Mtambo to death in Chitipa District.

Chitipa Police Station’s deputy spokesperson, Rabson Mkandawire, said the incident occurred on August 16, 2025 in Jembia area.

Mkandawire explained that the victim attended a funeral ceremony at Jembia, where he was helping to dig a grave. As he was digging, the suspect brutally stabbed him in the head with a knife for no apparent reason.

The victim was rushed to Wenya Health Centre and later referred to Chitipa District Hospital, where he died.

“A postmortem conducted at the hospital showed that the cause of death was severe blood loss from a deep cut to the head,” Mkandawire said.
