The Trump Administration filed a lawsuit against California, claiming its regulations on egg production are contributing to the rising costs of eggs across the country.
The average cost of eggs continues to remain high, but some experts said there are more factors at play than what the administration is alleging.
"I think it's 100% possible that they raised the price of eggs," said Dr. Robert Wood, a business professor at San Jose State University. "When you raise the costs, that raises prices."
The suit claims the rising costs of eggs ic connected to the state's "red tape" on the production of eggs and chicken products. The lawsuit is targeting animal welfare laws, including one passed in 2008, regulating the quality of eggs sold for human consumption.
