The recent string of comfortable summer temperatures appears to be coming to an end as a major heat wave is set to arrive in Southern California this week.

Afternoon highs near normal should continue on Monday and Tuesday, but forecasters are calling for conditions to heat up by Wednesday.

“I’m going to tell you right now, we’re going to be talking a lot about heat, unhealthy conditions and really our first aggressive warm up that we’ve had during this summer," KTLA Meteorologist Henry DiCarlo said Monday morning.

A ridge of high pressure that has spent most of the summer sitting a little further east than normal is moving west again, which will bring back the hot temperatures.
