Nineteen small houses would cluster on 1½ acres in the Walnut Grove neighborhood north of Vancouver under a proposal submitted to Clark County last month.

Retired Vancouver attorney Dennis Carver is seeking approval for a project called Mary’s Place Cottages at 7506 N.E. 61st Ave. Clark County recently changed rules to permit “cottage clusters” of smaller homes centered around a shared green space.

Carver said his project will help bolster so-called middle housing options, which fall between traditional single-family houses and big apartment complexes.

He said the project is named after a late family friend, who owned the property for 60 years before Carver and his wife bought it a few years ago.
