CHICAGO (WLS) -- The Chicago area could experience severe storms Monday evening on a day when many students head back to school.

The Storm Prediction Center has much of the North Side of Chicago as well as northern and western suburbs at a Level 2 Risk for severe weather, with the South Side and south suburbs and Northwest Indiana at a Level 1 risk for severe weather.

Monday will be a hot and humid day with highs around 90, ABC7 Meteorologist Tracy Butler said.

Butler says the storms could start moving in around 4 p.m. and into the evening hours. Butler said the storms could bring some powerful wind gusts and torrential rain.
