NORTH OLMSTED, Ohio -- The dog days of summer this year finds North Olmsted encouraging animal lovers to post photos of their pets staying cool using hashtags #CoolPetsOfNorthOlmsted, #BeatTheHeat and #PetPicsPlease.

“That’s something fun to engage the residents,” North Olmsted Mayor Nicole Dailey Jones said.

“It was just one of those things where it was so hot for so long, what cool things are people doing with their pets?”

Decidedly not a contest, more for community pride, the idea for the fun extracurricular came from Jones’ Administrative Assistant Sarah Henley.

“We were just hoping to alleviate the oppressive heat by adding a little fun, and everyone loves sharing images of their pets,” she said.
