SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) -- Syracuse has named Steve Angeli, a transfer from Notre Dame, as the starting quarterback for the upcoming season, according to sources from ESPN. Angeli will make his debut for the Orange against No. 24 Tennessee in the season opener in Atlanta. Steve Angeli, a redshirt junior, narrowly beat out LSU transfer Rickie Collins for the starting position, with the decision being communicated to the quarterbacks early Monday morning.

Angeli has played in 21 games for Notre Dame, including a notable performance in the College Football Playoff semifinal against Penn State last season.
