Now that The Baltimore Sun has informed the public about the members of Mayor Brandon Scott’s elite staff and their six-figure salaries (“ Data shows many Baltimore city officials earn more than Gov. Wes Moore ,” Aug. 15), I have a suggestion that has worked in the workplace and other areas. The mayor can pick a Saturday or two per month and commandeer several trucks, enlist (draft) his well-paid staff, requisition gloves and trash bags, then go to selected neighborhoods and clean up.
They can solicit the help of community volunteers who live in those areas and reward them with gift cards or some other token of appreciation, in the hope that their involvement alongside their governmental representatives will lead to a continuance of housekeeping once the mayor and his staff leave.
