STAFFORD COUNTY, Va. (DC News Now) -- A man was arrested over the weekend in Stafford for taking controlled substances and then biting a deputy's foot, the sheriff's office said.

The Stafford County Sheriff's Office (SCSO) said it received numerous calls on Aug. 16 at around 11:15 p.m. for a pedestrian in the roadway on Interstate 95 near mile marker 136.

Responding deputies immediately found the man strolling, as there were no sidewalks along the highway.

A deputy tried to talk to the man on the shoulder of the highway so they wouldn't get hit by a car, but the man, showing clear signs of being under the influence, ran off into oncoming traffic, SCSO said.

Deputies detained him, and the man decided to bite a deputy's foot.

SCSO said the deputy did not get hurt from the bite.
