NEWBERRY COUNTY, S.C. (WIS) - Authorities have identified a Midlands man charged in a deadly shooting on Interstate 26.
Newberry County Sheriff Lee Foster said 45-year-old Wilfrido George Luna was charged with murder after an incident in the area of Exit 82.
The sheriff’s office said Luna allegedly shot a female victim and then fled across both lanes of the interstate toward the Mid Carolina Country Club. Foster noted that Luna was apprehended in the country club’s parking lot after a brief standoff.
The victim has not been identified as of around 5 p.m. Monday.
The School District of Newberry County said Mid-Carolina High School and Mid-Carolina Middle School were also locked down during the incident. Little Mountain, Pomaria-Garmany, and Prosperity-Rikard elementary schools were also
