Lansing — An Ingham County circuit judge said Monday that a case seeking the shutdown of Enbridge Inc.'s Line 5 can proceed as planned, rejecting efforts to pause the case while the U.S. Supreme Court decides whether it should be decided by the federal courts instead.

Ingham County Circuit Judge James Jamo said in a Monday order that proceeding with the case, despite Enbridge's pleas for a stay, would be more "economical" and serve the public interest better than a stay in litigation.

"... the public interests, considering the lengthy delays in this case, weigh heavily in favor of proceeding," Jamo said. "Unlike most cases discussed by both parties, this case has been pending for six years."
