CLEVELAND, Ohio – Authorities struggled Monday to search for three people who went missing in Lake Erie over the weekend.

Efforts were hindered by high winds that pushed waves as high as 5 feet, and the conditions continued into Monday. In one case, investigators stopped the search because of the waves.

The first incident took place about 6 p.m. Sunday when two swimmers were in the water off Huntington Beach in Bay Village, according to published reports. Authorities searched through the night. Attempts to reach the U.S. Coast Guard, as well as Cleveland Metroparks police were unsuccessful.
