BAZETTA — No injuries were reported as a Trumbull County Sheriff’s deputy was involved in a multi-vehicle crash Friday night.

According to a news release from the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Deputy Zachary Zigmont was traveling southwest on state Route 5 at 8:40 p.m., overtaking slow-moving traffic ahead as he responded to an emergency, with lights and sirens activated in a marked patrol car.

As he was navigating the traffic, a 2016 Honda Civic driven by Cecilia Cruz of Cortland proceeded to move to the left directly in front of Zigmont’s vehicle.

Zigmont took evasive action by heavily applying the brakes and swerving left of center, but it caused him to strike a 2014 Ford Escape, driven by Mary Shuster, 78, of Cortland, who was traveling northeast on Route 5.
