It was a remarkably different mood in the Oval Office than the last time Volodymyr Zelenskyy visited – when the Ukrainian leader faced a verbal tirade from President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance. He was eventually booted from the White House.
In tone and substance, Zelenskyy’s second meeting with Trump on Aug. 18 could not have been more different than the first.
Trump did not rule out sending U.S. troops to Ukraine to help with a peacekeeping effort after the war, although he did not commit to it either. He also didn't issue any ultimatums to Zelenskyy.
