DES MOINES, Iowa ( WOI ) - The school year is fast approaching, and over three thousand jobs are listed on the Iowa Department of Education’s hiring hub.
The Iowa Department of Education’s hiring hub listed over three thousand job openings with around 650 of them being in-classroom teaching positions.
The Iowa State Education Association say teachers will have to do more with less this school year.
Shortages exist in specialties that have been hard to recruit for and retain. This includes special education and foreign languages.
According to the Iowa Department of Education, the shortage list has expanded to 28 categories this year. The number of categories has increased over the past five to six years.
