A popular app designed to warn women about poor or dangerous dating behaviors has prompted several lawsuits in Metro Detroit since its spike in popularity last month, although the litigation faces an uphill battle.
The Tea Dating Advice application is marketed as a way to "give women the tools they need to date safely in a world that often overlooks their protection," according to the app's website. It was created in 2023 but blew up in popularity in July after attracting attention on social media, gaining hundreds of thousands of users. On Apple's App Store, it has more than 127,000 ratings and is ranked No. 1 among lifestyle apps.
