EVESHAM TWP., N.J. (WPVI) -- The St. Joan of Arc Carnival kicked off Monday night with a new security plan in place.

"Over the past several years, there have been multiple similar events cancelled throughout the area due to the dangerous actions of groups of attendees," said Evesham Township police, while announcing the new safety plan.

This year, the entire South Jersey carnival area is fenced off, with three designated entry points. Face coverings and backpacks are also not permitted.

Evesham police officers will be on-site each night to ensure safety.
