Foxconn confirmed Monday that Lordstown will be at the center of its artificial intelligence ambitions.
Its chairman, Young Liu, told media outlets that the Taiwanese electronics giant and Japan’s SoftBank are partners in OpenAI’s Stargate Project. That work will take place at Lordstown’s Foxconn Ohio plant, which SoftBank purchased for $375 million earlier this month.
“We understand that for this project, the first priorities are power, venue and timing — it cannot be delayed for too long,” Lui told Reuters. “Taking all these factors into account, we believe Ohio is a very suitable location, and SoftBank shares this view.”
Endorsed by President Donald Trump, Stargate is a $500 billion, four-year project meant to bolster the nation’s AI infrastructure. According to OpenAI’s website, Sof
