WASHINGTON —

More states are sending National Guard troops to Washington, D.C., as part of President Donald Trump's plan to crack down on crime and boost immigration enforcement.

Three more Republican governors have authorized the deployment of troops , increasing the number of participating states to six.

Mississippi , Tennessee, and Louisiana announced they're sending troops to the nation's capital, joining West Virginia , South Carolina , and Ohio . This brings the number of state troops in Washington to more than 1,100.

The deployment of troops began last week when Trump declared a "crime emergency" in Washington and initiated the takeover of the D.C. police department .
