Former Aberdeen striker Sam Cosgrove has joined A-League Premiership winners Auckland FC in a surprise move after his stint with Barnsley.

Cosgrove has made the move to the successful New Zealand outfit after two years in South Yorkshire after a trio of loans away from Birmingham City .

The 28-year-old had three successful years at Pittodrie under Derek McInnes before he was sold to Birmingham in 2021, but he struggled to break into the side and hold down a starting role.

Loans to Shrewsbury Town, AFC Wimbledon and Plymouth Argyle followed, and it was with the latter of the three he enjoyed the most success after picking up a League One Winners' medal, writes Record Sport .
