MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Heat alerts remain in effect across the Mid-South through Tuesday evening with heat index values between 105-112 degrees.

Memphis officially hit 100 degrees Monday, which came up just short of the daily record. Tuesday brings our best chance to tie or even break that record, with afternoon highs once again near 100 and heat indices well above it. Overnight lows staying in the upper 70s to mid-80s, meaning there will be little relief from the dangerous heat.

A cold front moving in late Tuesday will increase shower and thunderstorm chances during the afternoon and evening. This boundary will bring some much-needed rainfall, though coverage will be scattered and totals on the lighter side.

Behind the front, temperatures will trend cooler through the end of the week.
