A Virgin Atlantic cabin crew member was removed from a plane after crashing her car and turning up for work four times over the alcohol limit, a court has heard.

Kathryn Scott, 44, smashed her Hyundai into a roundabout but left it at the scene and was driven to Heathrow by a member of the public.

Uxbridge Magistrates' Court was told she was taken off the aircraft after the crash was reported to police.

Scott denied a single charge of performing an aviation function when over the alcohol limit - and the court heard she blamed the crash on a steering problem with the car.

The flight attendant said she had drunk two glasses of wine eight hours before the flight, on 12 June.

Magistrates were also told she has a liver condition that means she may not break down alcohol in a normal way.
