MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. (DC News Now) — Officials said the house fire in Bethesda that left an elderly man hospitalized caused thousands of dollars in damage.

On Monday, Aug. 18, around 11 a.m., firefighters with the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) were dispatched to a fire in the 4800 block of Broad Brook Drive.

According to David Pazos, a spokesperson with the MCFRS, crews were called to the home after a neighbor saw smoke and called 911.

Upon arrival, firefighters found flames coming from the first floor of the home and the garage. Crews quickly began searching the house and located an unconscious man.

He was taken to the hospital for treatment and was in serious condition as of Monday.
