Van Aken District in Shaker Heights implemented a temporary chaperone policy, requiring minors to be accompanied by a parent or adult age 25 or older after 8 p.m., through Labor Day, Sept. 1.

The policy was created in partnership with the city of Shaker Heights and the Shaker Heights Police Department, as a method to effectively manage crowds and unchaperoned minors, which the shopping district called “more challenging than in previous years.”

Van Aken District announced the policy with social media posts and a new website page, which described the policy. The city of Shaker Heights announced the policy through its August Newsletter.
