Grant applications are now being accepted for the Illinois Safe Routes to School Program, which is administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) using federal funds. The program supports projects aimed at improving safety and reducing traffic near schools serving students from kindergarten through high school.

A total of $12 million will be distributed in this grant cycle, with each project eligible for up to $250,000. Eligible projects may include new sidewalks, traffic-calming measures, and upgrades that improve accessibility for individuals with disabilities.
