Wyc Grousbeck might no longer be operating as governor of the Boston Celtics, but it appears as though he will very much remain in the thick of the team’s ownership.

After months of dotting I’s and crossing T’s, the sale of the Celtics officially closed Tuesday, with the team getting sold to Bill Chisholm. The NBA had approved the deal last week, so Tuesday signifies that the money effectively has been exchanged to transfer ownership to Chisholm.

Even after Chisholm had purchased the team, there was an expectation Grousbeck would continue to operate as governor through 2028. However, that abruptly changed , with ESPN reporting last week that Grousbeck would be surrendering his role. The reason for that remains unclear.
