S[RINGFIELD, Mo. — Superintendent of Springfield Public Schools Dr. Grenita Lathan made her way to a couple of different buildings for the first day of school, including McGregor Elementary.

"It's important not only that myself, as the superintendent, but our entire leadership team, that we're out in the schools troubleshooting any first day of school issues that may arise," Dr. Lathan said. "That we feel we can be of assistance to our principal and our teachers."

Dr. Lathan had the opportunity to visit staff, students, and teachers while showing her superintendent for a day, Jessica Harmison Olson, owner of Maxon Fine Jewelry, how things work at SPS schools.
