With the colder months approaching, Michiganders can save money on their heating costs by claiming a tax credit.
Eligible homeowners and renters have until Sept. 30 to apply for the home heating credit . The average qualifying household received $180 last year, according to a news release from the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS). That aid was most often applied to utility bills, while some energy providers offered a credit up to $20 a month.
“The Home Heating Credit is a ‘use it or lose it’ benefit, so MDHHS is encouraging Michiganders to claim their credit by the Sept. 30 deadline.
