BOSTON —
The Boston Celtics, the only team in NBA history with 18 championship trophies, have a new ownership group.
William Chisholm's investment group took control of the storied franchise on Tuesday morning, the team announced. The NBA's Board of Governors unanimously approved the $6.1 billion deal last week.
Chisholm, managing director and co-founder of Symphony Technology Group, will serve as governor, and Wyc Grousbeck and Aditya Mittal will serve as alternate governors. Grousbeck will be a co-owner and CEO.
Grousbeck was originally expected to retain the governor role through the 2027-28 NBA season when the deal was announced in March. The CEO is more of a figurehead, while the governor generally has the final say on NBA team decisions.
