GORHAM, Maine — Tuesday night, town councilors in Gorham made a significant decision that could shape the community's future.

At a special meeting, the council voted 5-2 to approve the sale of 94 acres of town-owned land to Amazon for $4 million.

The sale has sparked mixed reactions among residents and local leaders, with some seeing opportunity and others warning of potential consequences.

“I think it’s terrific,” Gorham resident Greg McCormack said. “It will be a good source of tax income.”

But not everyone agrees.

"In terms of the environment, there's going to be a negative impact," town resident Ysabelle Lastrabes said.

At the same time, she sees a potential benefit.

“It will bring opportunities for people to work,” Lastrabes added.
