All customers of the Cross Gates water system in the Slidell area are under a boil-water advisory, St. Tammany Parish government said in a notice to the customers Tuesday afternoon.

St. Tammany government spokesperson Michael Vinsanau said an "electrical issue" triggered the notice that went out to around 10,000 customers.

The parish is spending millions of dollars to make improvements to the Cross Gates water system, which has come under fire from area residents who have complained of issues ranging from discolored water to experiencing rashes and stomach illnesses they say were caused by the water.
