It’s a new season for the Lakelands Toros U19 soccer team, but the results for the club didn’t change a bit.

After sending multiple teams to the Southern Presidents Cup this past spring, the Toros’ 2007-08 boys team kicked off the new season with a first-place finish at the Athens United 50th Invitational, downing three other teams in the top region, the Premier Division.

“We’re just trying to get ready for league play. It’s good to work out all the kinks and have fun, get some team camaraderie,” coach Brian Vahjen said.

The tournament, which took place last weekend, prepares the team for league play in September.

“Anytime we can have a preseason tournament and win with a group of newer players and some older players mixed together it’s always nice,” Vahjen said.
