Luke Stanich is a world champion wrestler.

The Lehigh deferred-eligibility sophomore from Roxbury defeated Japan’s Reiji Uchida 4-3 on Tuesday at the United World Wrestling 65-kilogram (143 pounds) U20 championship freestyle final in Samokov, Bulgaria.

Stanich, who was an NCAA All-American at 125 pounds in 2024, scored the first takedown in the final to lead 2-0. After.a stepout, Stanich added his second takedown on a single leg and led 4-1 with 1:57 left to wrestle. Uchida scored a takedown of his own but Stanich defended successfully to hold on to win.

Stanich is projected as Lehigh’s starter at 141 pounds for the 2025-26 season.
