RALEIGH, N.C. (WITN) - A Sneads Ferry man has admitted he embezzled thousands of dollars in state tax revenue while operating a restaurant in New Hanover County.
Marteke Franks pleaded guilty yesterday in Wake County to five counts of embezzlement of state property.
The North Carolina Department of Revenue says the 49-year-old Franks was given 15 days in jail, 75 hours of community service, and ordered to pay back $79,894,22 to the state.
The state says the man embezzled the tax receipts between May 1, 2016, and September 30, 2020, while operating Fu Wangz on Carolina Beach Road.
In addition to the 15 days in jail, Franks was sentenced to five years of supervised probation.
