The Fort Bend County Toll Road Authority's board voted Monday to reject a route proposed by Fairchilds residents , who do not want an extension of an existing toll road to pass through their town.

That route would have looped north of the Village of Fairchilds, along Big Creek.

Fort Bend County Toll Road Authority Chairman Jim Rice said he was concerned about the cost and length of the residents’ preferred route, compared to other proposed paths for the toll road segment.

"The difference in cost is roughly an additional $40 million to take the Big Creek route," he said. "And these are toll roads – they're funded by ridership."
