MORTON, Ill. – Although a tornado did not drop from the skies Monday night in central Illinois, sirens went off in the village of Morton.
Severe weather rolled through the area on Monday night, with severe thunderstorm warnings issued in the 9 o’clock hour. No tornado warnings were issued by the National Weather Service, and the main threat from the severe weather was strong gusty winds.
Morton Police Patrol Sergeant Jared Boyer called in the activation of the village’s sirens. He says the reasoning was the observation of low-hanging clouds in the skies, and wanting to play it safe.
