Senators might make an example of one of President Donald Trump's most high-profile nominees, according to an analyst.

Joe Perticone, national political reporter for The Bulwark, reported Tuesday that Nick Adams, the social media personality Trump nominated to be ambassador to Malaysia, has "confounded" senators, with Sen. Brian Schatz (D-HI) saying Adams' nomination is "over the line."

Adams became famous on social media for portraying an "alpha male" persona. He regularly posts about drinking beer, hitting on women, and going to Hooters restaurants. He is also well-known as a fervent Trump supporter.

"Given the comfortable Republican majority in the Senate, there are very few things that can sink a Trump nominee," Perticone noted. "Even so, Adams could still become the rare example of a Trump nominee who folds."

There is already some evidence that Adams has begun to temper his performances as his nomination advances. For example, Perticone wrote that Adams has stopped posting about going to Hooters and eating steaks and has been posting more fawning content over the president.

Even so, Perticone noted that Trump's opponents are "doing their best to keep the prolific poster away from this new post."

"No one is upset enough for his nomination to be at real risk, of course—relatively few Trump nominations requiring Senate approval have been withdrawn, and no nominees have been outright rejected in the Senate yet," Perticone continued. "But Adams is so ostentatiously buffoonish, and so obviously unqualified, that the senators tasked with overseeing his confirmation process are a bit perplexed."
