WILLIAMSBURG COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) -- Voters in Williamsburg County will have a chance this November to decide whether to extend a one-percent sales tax that would help fund more than a dozen community development projects.

The county council voted last Monday to place a referendum on the November 4 ballot that would extend the Capital Project Sales Tax Initiative through May 1, 2032.

The first wave of CPST funds, funded through a referendum approved in 2017, was used to complete 12 public safety projects throughout the county, with another one currently in progress.

If the new referendum is approved, officials estimate it would generate approximately $14.5 million needed to pay the costs of 16 predetermined projects.
