EAST WILLIAMSBURG — THE CITY DEPARTMENT of Buildings (DOB) is disputing claims made by the Brooklyn Mirage over the status of its delayed reopening, reports EDM Identity . The popular nightclub was set to reopen in May, but plans collapsed when it was unable to secure the permits necessary to operate. At the time, Mirage management said that the building had missed an inspection deadline. The DOB, however, cited numerous major safety issues at the venue, including an unstable truss over its stage, and insufficient quantities of sprinklers, exit stairwells and toilets.

In a statement, DOB Commissioner James Oddo dismissed the club’s claim it was “show ready,” saying inspectors spared New Yorkers from “a structure that was unsafe.”
