Twelve jurors and four alternates watched and listened Tuesday as a state prosecutor and a high-profile defense attorney shared two versions of the night Hassan Sapry, a 27-year-old Iraqi immigrant, allegedly murdered his friend, Wilfred Guzman Sr., in Laconia, April 18, 2019.
Sapry, dressed in street clothes, repeatedly clutched a tissue to his face as he sat at the defense table in Belknap County Superior Court in Laconia. He is charged with nine offenses, including first- and second-degree murder, for causing the death of Guzman. Sapry’s first trial in 2022 was declared a mistrial.
