WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — In a letter sent to the State Board of Education and the Local Government Commission, North Carolina Auditor Dave Boliek called for a review of the "internal control procedures" at Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools.
The letter comes as WS/FCS officials are set to meet Tuesday night to discuss the district's $46 million budget deficit and possible cuts to lower that number. Before the special meeting, hundreds rallied outside the WS/FCS Education Building in an event set up by the Forsyth County Alliance of Educators.
In his letter to the State Board of Education and the Local Government Commission, Boliek referenced his office's own report on the district, which found that Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools "severely mismanaged its financial resources."
