A 16-year-old male suspected of armed robbery was apprehended Aug. 16 by the Summit County Sheriff's Office K-9 unit.

Around 8:25 p.m., the Akron Police Department requested assistance from the sheriff’s K-9 unit after a grocery store with robbed by a person with a firearm, according to a sheriff's office news release.

After the robbery, the juvenile fled east toward Tallmadge and Glenwood avenues. The sheriff’s deputy deployed his K-9 and it led law enforcement to a wooded area near a set of railroad tracks.

The suspect came out from the wooded area and ran from law enforcement, according to the release. The suspect was given verbal commands to stop but refused to comply.
