Sydney Sweeney ‘s Americana still has a chance of making a profit, despite the disappointing opening weekend.
It was previously reported that Sydney ‘s latest movie has been “all-out bombing” at the box office. Bringing in less than $500,000 for its first weekend in theaters, the movie has been widely considered a box office failure this far.
Despite the disappointing numbers, IndieWire is reporting that it’s still possible for Americana to turn a profit.
According to the publication, Lionsgate’s business model involves releasing large numbers of smaller movies in addition to a small handful of big titles. The studio relies on streaming deals and premium video purchases and rentals to make money on the smaller movies that don’t make such a large splash at the box office.
