Once the Milwaukee Brewers finally lost a game, Tipsheet wondered if that defeat would break their spell and render them ordinary again.
Their 14-game winning streak possessed a mystical quality. Some of the crazy ways they won games during that stretch, mounting one unlikely rally after another . . . well, it just didn’t make any sense.
Then the Brewers shook off Sunday’s 10 th -inning loss to the Cincinnati Reds to blank the Chicago Cubs 7-0 Monday and move nine games up on the Small Bears. The Brew Crew got right back to work.
Back on June 19 the Cubs led the National League Central by 5 1/2 games. Since the Brewers have posted a 39-10 mark and the dawdling Cubs have gone 25-25.
