TIJUANA (FOX 5/KUSI) -- Mexican officials were busy Tuesday burying a large whale that washed up on shore in Tijuana, Baja California.
A crowd began forming at a beach in Playas de Tijuana on Monday afternoon after a 26 to 36-foot whale washed up on shore.
The whale was found dead in the surf around 2 p.m. Monday near lifeguard station No. 14 in the section known as Jardines, El Sol de Tijuana and BajaNews reported.
On Tuesday, officials from the Municipal Secretariat of Urban Development and the Federal Attorney for Environmental Protection (Profepa) were working to bury the 5-ton whale in the sand, El Sol de Tijuana and BajaNews reported.
A large pit could be seen being excavated in the nearby sand in an effort to manage potential health and safety hazards associated with the whale's
