Honor Flight set for 52nd trip to military memorials

Honor Flight Northeast Indiana, a volunteer-run nonprofit, will lift off for its 52nd flight to Washington, D.C., on Sept. 10.

The Walorski Family Foundation will help sponsor the flight in memory of Jackie Walorski, the late U.S. House member who represented Indiana's 2nd district.

Honor Flight Northeast Indiana has safely taken 3,901 veterans to Washington to visit the memorials built to honor their service. There are 85 veterans confirmed to go on this flight: WWII – two; Korean War – four; Cold War – 13; Vietnam War – 66; Desert Shield/ Desert Storm – 5; and Iraqi Freedom – 1.

Among the honored veterans on this flight, one has been awarded two Purple Hearts, and another has received two Bronze Stars.
