CHICAGO – Pat Murphy's Woodpeckers gave it their best.
But in the end, a five-run deficit against Matthew Boyd was just too much to overcome as the Milwaukee Brewers dropped the first game of a split doubleheader against the Chicago Cubs , 6-4, at Wrigley Field on Tuesday afternoon, Aug. 19.
A Christian Yelich home run to open the fourth inning provided a jump start for the offense, which then narrowed the gap to 5-4 but could get no closer against the Cubs bullpen.
"Boyd is 10-0 at Wrigley, and he's pretty good," Murphy said of the 2025 all-star. "We pecked away and got him out of there, but we didn't get the big hit at the big time.
"I'm proud of our guys. We got back in the game. We're down, 5-0, and sure enough, here we come."
