In 1947 the United Nations voted to divide the British Mandate of Palestine into two nations, one Jewish and one Arab. The Jewish leaders accepted this proposal and declared independence a few months later. The Arab response was to try to finish what Hitler started. Israel was immediately attacked by several Arab armies and local Arabs. This new country of less than 700,000 was trying to prevent another genocide. The goal of the Arabs was to “drive the Jews into the Sea.” This remains the goal of Hamas. What happened to the Arab nation that was the other half of the partition plan?
