The city of New Albany is buying the site of a former call center and will lease a portion of the site to New Albany-Plain Local School District for athletic fields while preserving some of the land as public greenspace.

New Albany is paying $15 million for the 49.4-acre property at 6500 New Albany Road East, which was previously home to a Discover Financial Services call center. New Albany City Council approved entering a purchase agreement during its Aug. 19 council meeting.

Pending a lease agreement that must be approved by City Council and New Albany-Plain school board, the school district will lease about 19 acres for the likely relocation of its varsity and junior varsity baseball and softball fields from near the Plain Township Aquatic Center.
