The overlapping events came after a scheduling switch involving nonprofit Barrio Action, which had initially been working with de León before partnering instead with Jurado’s distribution effort, according to council district spokesperson Alejandra Alarcon. She said the change was made after the nonprofit learned the press had been notified and feared the event was becoming politicized.

Jurado's giveaway was held in the afternoon at her field office on Huntington Drive in El Sereno.
